Fans at Kansas basketball games will have a much better view due to the newest addition to the Allen Fieldhouse. This week, Kansas began installing a brand new high-definition (HD) video board to the Allen Fieldhouse.

The new Daktronics HD video board will be an amazing treat for all of the Kansas fans to attend games this year. The installation of the new video board will not change the structure of the center-hung scoreboard. The only thing that will change on it is the actual video board.

The biggest change  is the dimensions of the new HD video board. The old standard video board’s dimensions were 15 feet wide and 9 feet tall. The new HD video board will be three feet wider and a foot taller then the old standard video board. This will put the dimensions at 18 feet wide and 10 feet tall.

The HD video board should be finished by October 8th, which is two days before the “Late Night in the Phog” event.

However, the new video board is not the only addition to the Allen Fieldhouse. Kansas is also adding a brand new control room. The new control room will functionally be the same as Memorial Stadium (home of the Fight Illini).

The new control room will have some new toys as well. These toys consist of five HD studio cameras, a production switcher, an audio and video routing switcher with integrated multi-image viewers, an 8-channel slow-motion system, a dual channel clip server, a character generator and playback/recording equipment.

The additions of the HD video board and the control room should make the staff, players, and fans of Kansas very excited. It will be an amazing treat to witness games at the Allen Fieldhouse this year.
