The Kansas Jayhawks had no problems on Tuesday night as they swept past the UMKC Kangaroos for their sixth victory of the season. This was the first time UMKC made a trip to Lawerence since Christi Posey, former Kansas assistant, took over the UMKC volleyball program. The last time Kansas played UMKC was in 2010 where the Jayhawks swept the ‘Roos.

Just like in the Kansas Volleyball Invitational, Kansas’ redshirt junior middle blocker Caroline Jarmoc tied her career high as she racked up 16 kills in Tuesday’s match. Jarmoc only committed one error and recorded five block assists and two solos. She helped the Jayhawks turn away six total blocks in the first set alone.

However, Jarmoc was not the only Jayhawk to have a career night on Tuesday. Kansas’ freshman outside hitter Tiana Dockery earned 13 kills as well as 7 digs. The Kansas Jayhawks improved to 6-1 with the victory as UMKC fell to 5-4.

Kansas spread the ball around very well in the first set of the match as four different Jayhawks collected two or more kills. Junior setter Erin McNorton carried her good play over from the Kansas Volleyball Invitational as she recorded 11 assists in the first set and 33 overall.

Brianne Riley, the junior from Naperville, Illinois, had six digs in the third set to move her into the Top 10 on KU’s digs list. She has accumulated 1,019 digs in her two-plus seasons at Kansas.

Kansas will open the Jayhawk Invitational on Friday with two matches. Their two matches on Friday will be against the College of Charleston Cougars and the Arizona State Sun Devils.

Ballard High school offensive lineman Joey Bloomfield signed with Kansas as part of the 2013 recruiting class. The 6-6 senior spurned San Diego State, Houston, Colorado, Eastern Michigan, Fordham and Tennessee-Martin. Bloomfield is Kansas’s 7th prospect signed for the year.

Bloomfield is ranked as the no. 7 senior in Kentucky, and a 3-star prospect as ranked by Scout.com, Rivals.com and 24/7 sports. He is ranked as the 50th offensive lineman of the class.

Kansas offered Bloomfield a scholarship in February. Later on in the year, he visited the school and liked what he saw. Bloomfield is excited to play for a Big 12 school. The lineman cited the new coaching staff as his main reason for signing with Kansas. Bloomfield’s stock rose after a Memphis Nike Camp in July, which brought further schools into play. Bloomfield wants to play either guard or tackle at Kansas.

Bloomfield joins linbacker Kellen Ash, quarterbacks Montell Cozart and Jordan Darling. Tight end Ben Johnson, and defensive backs Taylor Lewis and Colin Spencer round out the 2013 class so far.
