Kansas Women’s Basketball: Idaho State Game Recap

Kansas defeated Idaho State, 52-36 in a low scoring affair on Sunday afternoon. The game was never in contention as the Lady Jayhawks dominated the Bengals from the Big Sky Conference.

The game was Kansas’s first of the season, while it was Idaho State’s second. The Bengals fell to Kansas State on Friday. After a slow start for both teams, Kansas used a 12-0 run to end the first half, putting their lead at 23-11. It was only more of the same in the second half, as the lead ballooned to 48-22 before Kansas pulled most of their starters. Idaho State scored the game’s final nine points to make the deciding score more respectable.

Kansas senior forward Carolyn Davis scored 10 points in just 18 minutes of action. Fellow senior Angel Goodrich scored seven points on 3-8 shooting for Kansas. Bengals forward Ashleigh Villa scored 10 points to led Idaho State. Neither team really shot the ball well for the game as the Bengals went 12-55 from the field, just 22%. Kansas finished 31% from the field, connecting on just 20-65 attempts.

Next up for the Lady Jayhawks is a meeting with Southeast Missouri State on Wednesday in Lawrence.

The Kansas Lady Jayhawks and Idaho State women’s team square off today at 1:00 p.m. central time in Lawrence. This is the Lady Jayhawks first game of the season, while the Bengals from Idaho State lost 62-54 on Friday to Kansas State.

Idaho State in the game on Friday, struggled to make shots. The team connected on 35% of their shots, 18-52 from the field, including 4-22 from behind the three-point line. Ashleigh Villa led the Bengals with 12 points in the loss.

The Bengals are a very experienced squad, something that makes them a team to reckon with. Fellow starters along with Villa, Kara Jennkins, Kaela Oakes, and Linsey Reed are all experienced players. Last season this team finished with a 24-8 record. The Bengals were picked to win the Big Sky conference before the season started.

The Lady Jayhawks on the other hand, finished 19-12 last season with a unit led by senior guard Angel Goodrich and senior forward Carolyn Davis who are both on the John Wooden watch list. Kansas is ranked number 25 by the USA Today poll and received many votes in the AP poll.

Expect a great effort again from the Bengals against Big 12 competition, though Kansas will be difficult to beat here.
