1. Kansas State (10-1, 7-1 Big 12) – 18 points (two first-place votes) (LW: 1)

The Wildcats got bounced from the top spot in the BCS Rankings after losing 52-24 to the Baylor Bears. Collin Klein threw a season-high three interceptions. After cracking open the history books, KSU lost to Baylor at the exact point of the season that #2 Oklahoma State lost to Iowa State in 2011.

2. Oklahoma (8-2, 6-1 Big 12) – 16 points
(LW: 2)

The Sooners avoided a huge upset at the hands of West Virginia. Landry Jones threw six touchdowns as OU edged out the Mountaineers by one point.

3. Texas (8-2, 5-2 Big 12) – 14 points (LW: 3)

Texas had a bye week and will take on TCU on Thanksgiving day.

4. Oklahoma State (7-3, 5-2 Big 12) – 12 points (LW: 4)

Oklahoma State absolutely dominated the Texas Tech Red Raiders 59-21 last week. Isaiah Anderson gave Clint Chelf a target to throw to as he recorded 174 receiving yards on four receptions. He also had four touchdowns in the game.

Nov 17, 2012; Lawrence, KS, USA; Iowa State Cyclones wide receiver Josh Lenz (19) is congratulated by wide receiver Quenton Bundrage (9) after catching a touchdown against the Kansas Jayhawks in the second half at Memorial Stadium.
5. TCU (6-4, 3-4 Big 12) – 9 points (LW: 6)

TCU had a bye week and will take on Texas on Thanksgiving day.

6. Iowa State (6-5, 3-5 Big 12) – 8 points (LW: 8)

Iowa State beat the Kansas Jayhawks with the help of their backup quarterback. Sam Richardson came in on the team’s third possession of the game and caught fire. He finished the game with 250 passing yards and four touchdowns.

7. Texas Tech (7-4, 4-4 Big 12) – 7 points (LW: 5)

Texas Tech witnessed a huge loss to the Oklahoma State Cowboys. Seth Doege threw for 230 yards, but could not get the touchdowns like he usually does. He threw one touchdown compared to two interceptions. Texas Tech turned the ball over a total of three times compared to Oklahoma State’s zero times.

8. Baylor (5-5, 2-5 Big 12) – 5 points (LW: 9)

Baylor pulled off the biggest upset of the week against Kansas State. Last season on November 18th, ISU defeated #2 Oklahoma State on a game-winning field goal. The difference this year was that Baylor dominated Kansas State. The Bears outscored the Wildcats 24-7 in the fourth quarter.

9. West Virginia (5-5, 2-5 Big 12) – 2 points (LW: 7)

The West Virginia Mountaineers had their Big 12 conference losing streak pushed to five games after their loss to Oklahoma. Geno Smith threw for 320 yards and scored four touchdowns. However, WVU still lost by one point. The Mountaineers have two more Big 12 games left against Iowa State and Kansas.

10. Kansas (1-10, 0-8 Big 12) – 0 points (LW: 10)

The Jayhawks got torched by the Iowa State Cyclones as they lost their tenth straight game of the season. KU turned the ball over a total of four times compared to ISU’s one turnover. James Sims was also held to only 81 rushing yards on twenty carries. This ended his 100-yard game streak at six games.

The Bears only had one Big 12 win coming into the game. Collin Klein had 325 total yards and three total touchdowns, but he threw three interceptions. These three interceptions are the most by Klein in a game all season. Baylor’s offense was powered by their run game. Lache Seastrunk and Glasco Martin both had 19 carries. Seastrunk recorded 185 yards and one touchdown while Martin recorded 113 yards and three touchdowns.

23 Texas Tech (7-4, 4-4 Big 12) 21 @ 24 Oklahoma State (7-3, 5-2 Big 12) – The Red Raiders suffered their worst loss since they played Kansas State this past weekend.

The talk of the Iowa State passing game was Steele Jantz all week. Everyone (including Through the Phog) wanted to talk about how Kansas should stop Jantz and how important he is.

Head coach Charlie Weis said it perfectly in his weekly press conference. According to kuathletics.com, he said “Jantz is the guy, but we have to be ready for both quarterbacks.”

Nov 17, 2012; Lawrence, KS, USA; Iowa State Cyclones quarterback Sam Richardson (12) throws a pass against the Kansas Jayhawks in the first half at Memorial Stadium. Mandatory Credit: John Rieger-US PRESSWIRE

That was the case on Saturday as Sam Richardson came in for Jantz on ISU’s third possession of the game. Richardson had not even attempted a single pass until the game against the Jayhawks.

However, he had the game of his life as he threw for 250 yards and scored four touchdowns. On top of it, he did not commit a single turnover in the game.

Another thing Richardson did well was spreading the ball around. All of his four touchdowns were to different ISU wide receivers. Albert Gary, Aaron Horne, Ernst Burn Jr. and Josh Lenz all caught touchdown passes from Richardson. Three of the four passing touchdowns came in the second quarter and helped the Cyclones jump out a 38-17 lead over Kansas.

The reason why this is a big deal for the Jayhawks is because of who they will play in their final game of the season. On December 1st in the team’s season finale, the Jayhawks will face off against the West Virginia Mountaineers and Geno Smith.

Even though WVU has lost five straight Big 12 games, they can still be successful against Kansas. Smith has recorded 3,361 passing yards and 35 passing touchdowns this season. He is also averaging 7.7 yards per passing attempt.

Smith can do the same as Sam Richardson (or even better) in the season finale against Kansas on December 1st.
