KANSAS HEADS UP

The Jayhawks are coming off a road win at Boston College from the previous week. It was Kansas football’s first power-five road win in over a decade, and could possibly be the turning point in the program.

Kansas looked unstoppable against the Eagles, racking up 567 total yards of offense, and shutting out Boston College in the second half. The improvement between weeks two and three was a welcome sight after the embarrassing loss to Coastal Carolina. Continuing to improve week by week should be the ultimate goal for Kansas, but they have a real chance this week to open Big 12 play with a win at home.

WEST VIRGINIA HEADS UP

Similar to Kansas, the Mountaineers are also coming off a big win after underperforming in weeks one and two. West Virginia beat NC State at home 44-27, after scraping by FCS James Madison and getting beat bad by Missouri.

In their game against the Wolfpack, the Mountaineers finally got their running game figured out. It’ll be interesting to see if West Virginia can continue to improve their offense, or if it’ll revert back to the way it was in weeks one and two.

HOW KANSAS CAN WIN

So far, the X-factor for Kansas seems to be quarterback Carter Stanley. When Stanley is throwing the ball accurately, the Jayhawks are able to play a balanced offense and open up their run game. Continuing their momentum from last week’s effort will be key for Kansas football this week.

Also, the Kansas defense has been playing solid football so far this season. After giving up 24 points last week in the first half, the Jayhawks didn’t give up another point in the second half. Making effective adjustments is an important key to having a successful defense, and it looks like Kansas has that facet locked down.

There’s this theory going around that the Jayhawks are coming. Well if that’s true, this is the week to prove it. Picking up back to back power five wins would be a milestone for the Jayhawks and send a statement that Kansas may be for real.
