Week 10 AP College Basketball Top 25 Rankings

After four weeks of the Associated Press Top 25 teams in the nation remaining rather stagnant, the Week 10 Rankings release provides perhaps the largest shake-up of the season thus far.

The Top 5 has managed to stay the same for another week, but only for one more as #3 Ohio State fell to #5 Michigan State last night in a thrilling comeback attempt by OSU. The repercussions of the Buckeyes loss will come to the surface in next week’s poll release.

For this week, however, the Top 10 is unoccupied by the Duke Blue Devils for the first time since 2007 after their loss to Notre Dame in the Fighting Irish’s home conference opener and ACC debut. The Blue Devils currently rank #16 in the country. Wichita State slides into the 6th spot which may be a “shocker” to some, but don’t doubt Greg Marshall’s squad who will more than likely crack the Top 5 next week.

Baylor falls in at #7 and Villanova makes their way back into the Top 10 at the 8 spot. Undefeated Iowa State holds the 9 spot, the highest ranked undefeated team in the nation. Florida closes out the Top 10.

Oklahoma State suffered a conference opening loss to the Kansas State Wildcats, knocking the Cowboys back out of the Top 10 to the 11 slot.

Steve Fisher and the San Diego State Aztecs traveled into Phog Allen Fieldhouse to take on the Kansas Jayhawks Sunday afternoon and took care of business, snapping the Jayhawks 68-game home non-conference winning streak by defeating them 61-57. The win for SDSU propels them to #13 in the country while sliding Kansas back down to #18.

Oregon’s 100-91 loss on the road at Colorado leaves them in the 17 slot in the Top 25.

#23 Illinois and #25 Kansas State are the first newcomers to the Top 25 in four weeks, taking the places of Connecticut and North Carolina after the Huskies back-to-back losses to Houston and SMU and the Tar Heels loss to Wake Forest dismiss them from the rankings. Memphis lies between the two at #24 after being strong armed by the Cincinnati Bearcats at home in the FedEx Forum in Memphis.
