The University of Kansas football program had a fantastic opening day of mid-year signing according to a report from KUsports.com. The Jayhawks were able to land the commitment and signings of three Junior College transfer players Wednesday.
Offensive Lineman Keyon Haughton, 6-2, 250 pound Guard from the Georgia Military Institute made it official with Kansas this morning as he signed his letter of intent from his home in Baltimore, Maryland. Accompanying Haughton will be fellow Georgia Military Institute teammate Devon Williams as reported in another KUsports.com article. The 6-5, 335 pound Offensive Tackle will unfortunately not be able to report to campus until Mid-June. Williams is a First Team Juco All-American.
Defensive Back Ronnie Davis, 6-1, 170 pound Corner from Northeastern Oklahoma A&M verbally committed to Kansas on Monday and signed his letter of intent this morning. Davis can play most secondary positions, but spent the majority of time at corner last season, grabbing five interceptions.
The Jayhawks received an early Christmas present as they were able to land 3-Star Safety Anthony Smithson of Hartnell Community College in Salinas, California. Hailing from Salt Lake City, Utah, the 6-0, 180 pound Smithson chose the Kansas Jayhawks after receiving and contemplating scholarship offers from Utah, Wisconsin, and Oregon State. An impressive win over ample competition for the Jayhawks recruiting. Smithson comes to Lawrence with three years of remaining eligibility. Smithson ended his Freshman campaign with 75 tackles and eight interceptions.
All three signees plan to arrive on campus in Lawrence in mid-January.
