The stars aligned perfectly in Lawrence today as the Kansas Lady Jayhawks steamrolled the visiting Texas Southern Tigers 105-78.

Coming into tonight’s game, which was postponed from last week due to inclement weather, the Jayhawks had an even 4-4 record and were in need of a solid win. And a solid win they got, improving their overall record to 5-4 with the 105-78 victory.

The game was close for the first few minutes, but the determined Kansas unit continued to steadily increase their lead throughout the first half before leading 49-29 at the half.

The Junior Jayhawks were the stars of the night. Junior F Chelsea Gardner was red hot from the floor, scoring 30 points on 13 of 16 shooting while adding 8 rebounds in 33 minutes played. Gardner’s partner in crime, fellow Junior Asia Boyd, complimented Gardner’s outstanding performance with a 25 point, 6 rebound electric display of her own in 28 minutes played. Junior G Natalie Knight added 14 points as well. Senior CeCe Harper had a season-high eleven assists and Freshman Jayhawk G Dakota Gonzalez of Pocatello, Idaho gave Kansas a huge spark off the bench, scoring 18 points on 7 of 10 shooting.

For the Texas Southern Tigers, Junior and former TCU signee and Junior College transfer Jazz Parker had a game high 34 points on 13 of 24 shooting. Parker scores 30+ for the fourth time this year.

Kansas is next in action on Sunday December 15 as the Lady Jayhawks take on the #18 ranked Purdue Boilermakers in a home match-up.
