Just three days removed from inserting G Frank Mason into the starting line-up, giving the Kansas Jayhawks three starting freshman total (Wiggins, Selden Jr.), Head Coach Bill Self has decided to give another one a whirl.
Freshman 7-footer and Cameroon native Joel Embiid will get the starting job at Center tonight when the Jayhawks visit #19 Florida.
The Kansas big man averages 9.3 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 2.2 blocks per game in 19 minutes played. He was off to a fantastic start in the Jayhawks’ eventual last second loss to Colorado, scoring ten points on 4-6 shooting, but was unseen in the second half, only getting off one shot for 0 points.
Embiid’s teammates need to find him early and often to establish an inside game. If the offense flows through Embiid, the Jayhawks week be successful both inside and out.
The Jayhawks now start four Freshman G Frank Mason, F Wayne Selden Jr., F Andrew Wiggins, and C Joel Embiid, as well as Sophomore F Perry Ellis.
Senior Memphis transfer Tarik Black started the first eight games of the season at the Center position, averaging 3.5 points and 2.8 rebounds in those games.
This is possibly the youngest starting line-up Bill Self has ever put on the floor in his career.
See how the young fellas fare tonight at 7:00 PM EST on ESPN/ESPN3.
