Jayhawks Reach Third Round for First Time in School History

The Kansas Jayhawks Volleyball squad is heading to the sweet sixteen for the first time in program history after knocking off Creighton 3-1 this evening, as reported by

Kansas came in with an overall 25-7 record following their defeat of Wichita State last night. The Bluejays of Creighton (23-9) are coming off a victory against the Arkansas Razorbacks.

The Jayhawks fell earlier in the year to Creighton in Omaha, Nebraska, the only loss to Creighton in program history. Tonight, however, would not hold the same fate for Creighton, who fall short of the Regional Round of the tournament.

Junior Chelsea Albers had 18 kills on the evening, the highest of the match. Cassie Wait contributed 19 digs, the Jayhawks team high. Junior Erin McNorton had assists on 51 scored points for Kansas. Brianne Riley, as well as Albers, each had 17 digs in the match.

The Lady Jayhawks will meet the winner of the third seeded Washington Huskies match-up with SEC hopeful LSU. The third round of the NCAA Divison I Women’s Volleyball Tournament will take place on December 13 in Los Angeles, California.
