Instant Reaction: TCU Holds Onto Defeat Kansas, 27-17

On Saturday afternoon in Fort Worth, Texas, the TCU Horned Frogs defeated Kansas, 27-17 in the team’s homecoming game.

With the win, TCU improved to 3-3 overall, while dropping Kansas to a 2-3 mark overall.

Two Horned Frogs touchdowns in the third quarter broke open a 10-10 tie at halftime. The first score came just 13 seconds into the quarter with a 75-yard touchdown pass from Trevone Boykin to David Porter. The Horned Frogs later added another score on a two-yard run from B.J. Catalon. Kansas responded with a 27-yard touchdown from Jake Heaps to Jimmay Mundine, cutting the lead in half.

A 32-yard interception return from Jayhawks cornerback JaCorey Shepard in the second quarter knotted the score up at 10. A touchdown run from Boykin gave the Horned Frogs the early 7-3 lead following a Matthew Wyman field goal.

Jayhawks quarterback Jake Heaps completed 13-26 passes for 152 yards in the game with one touchdown and an interception. Boykin completed 14-22 passes for 173 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. James Sims rushed 23 times for 81 yards, Catalon rushed for 91 yards and Boykin added 71.

Next up for Kansas is Oklahoma, who will make the trip to Lawrence. The game will begin at 2:30 p.m. central time. The Sooners lost today to Texas, 36-20 for their first defeat on the year.
