Kansas Jayhawks football recruit Andre Maloney died on Thursday night after suffering a stroke during Overland Park Shawnee Mission’s football game.
Maloney, a senior receiver for the team, was transported to a Kansas City hospital afterwards.
The receiver who had just scored on a 63-yard touchdown pass, became disoriented after sitting on the team’s bench. Two doctors along with a trainer rushed to the receivers side, who was then brought to the hospital.
Maloney, a 6-foot-1 receiver as a three star recruit had offers from Kansas, Iowa State, Kansas State, Minnesota, Missouri, Oklahoma State and Tulsa before committing to the Jayhawks this summer.
Through four games this season, Maloney had amassed 490 all-purpose yards and four touchdowns. He was averaging 26 yards per reception and helped lead West to a state title last season.
