Kansas Basketball: Black and Wiggins Earn Big 12 Preseason Honors

Kansas newcomers Tarik Black and Andrew Wiggins were named the Big 12 conference preseason picks for newcomer of the year and freshman of the year on Thursday. The awards were voted for by coaches who couldn’t vote for their own.

Black averaged nine points and five rebounds while at Memphis, and Wiggins enters the fold as the nation’s top recruit from 2013. Wiggins averaged 23 points and 11 boards while at Huntington Prep in West Virginia.

Perry Ellis and Joel Embiid were also named to the Big 12 conference Pre-season honorable mention teams, while Wiggins earned a spot on the first team for the conference. Ellis as a returning player was the unit’s top returning scorer at 5.8 points and rebounds with 3.9 from last season. Embiid, as a freshman center was ranked the nation’s top sixth player overall and top incoming big-man.

Isaiah Austin from Baylor, Corey Jefferson from Baylor, Melivin Ejim out of Iowa State, and Markel Brown and Marcus Smart out of Oklahoma State.
