On Wednesday night, the Kansas Jayhawks volleyball team fell in five sets to the U-23 national Italy team.
Kansas entered the game on a six-match winning streak, but facing this Italy team, was a learning experience for the team. The Jayhawks took the first set, 21-18, only to lose the next two sets, 21-19 and 21-10. Kansas dominated the fourth set, 21-9, only to fall in a tight fifth set, 15-11.
Sarah McClinton made 10 kills in the match, while Erin McNorton added 23 assists. The Jayhawks offense wasn’t their normal fiery selves as they connected on just .190 attack percantage. Valentina Diouf made 19 kills to lead all players on the night. Laura Partenio, her teammate was right behind with 17 kills.
Next up for Kansas is the start of Big 12 play when the team hosts TCU on Saturday.
