Kansas Football: A Look at the Louisiana Tech Offense

On Saturday, the Kansas Jayhawks are set to Louisiana Tech in Lawrence. The game-time is set for 11:00 a.m. central time and will be televised on Fox Sports 1.

On the season, Kansas after falling to Rice last week is 1-1, while Louisiana Tech has a record of 1-2 as they also lost last week to Tulane. Here is a look at the Mustangs offense.

Scotty Young is the new quarterback for new head coach Skip Holtz’s offense. This season, the Mustangs are averaging 18.7 points per game, a ways lower then last season’s team which scored over 51 points per game. Young left last week’s game to an injury, with Ryan Higgins stepping in and taking over.

Last season’s top running back, Kenneth Dixon is hurt, paving the way for Tevin King to step in. King was the team’s top back in 2012 before falling to injury. The running back is averaging 96 yards per game, with an average of seven yards per carry.

The team’s top receiver is Sterling Griffin. He is a graduate transfer from South Florida, where Holtz formerly coached. Griffin has 11 receptions on the season.

This years offense isn’t the same as previous seasons with a new coach, and new personnel breaking in. The talent is evident on the roster, however and should only take a matter of time before good things occur.
