Earlier this evening in Lawrence, the Kansas Jayhawks soccer team fell 2-0 to visiting San Diego. The home-team out-shot San Diego, 17-11 yet couldn’t crack the scoreboard.
With the win, San Diego improved to 5-2 on the season, while dropping Kansas to 3-3-1. Nine of the Jayhawks 17 shots came on goal, yet San Diego goalie Michelle Craft stayed true in stopping them all.
Senior Taylor Housely scored both of the Toreros goals, with the first coming in the 21st minute on an assist from Michaela Dooley. Later on in the second half at the 49th-minute, Housely struck again this time on an assist from Kelly McCloskey and Jacqueline Altschuld.
The Jayhawks fought until the final bell yet couldn’t crack Craft in the net, with shots coming from all directions. Liana Salazar led the team in shots with four, while Caroline Kastor and Ashley Pankey added three apiece.
Next up for Kansas is a match-up on Sunday vs San Francisco as part of the Kansas Invitational. The game vs the Dons is the second game of the day with San Diego and Nebraska beginning play at 9:30 a.m. central time.
