The Kansas Jayhawks and South Dakota Coyotes will square off in the Jayhawks season opener at 6:00 p.m. central time in Lawrence. Kansas will be looking to start the season off on the right note after struggling last season to a 1-11 record. The lone win came in the Jayhawks opener vs South Dakota State, 31-17.

The game will be televised on the Jayhawks Television network with radio coverage on Sirius 110, and the Jayhawk Radio Network.

The Jayhawks don’t have any players from South Dakota, though the Coyotes have a few players from Kansas. TE Kayl Barkley, DB Dyllon Knox, LB Jet Moreland , FB Drew Potter, and QB Aaron Ramsey all hail from Kansas.

Kansas on Sept. 7th hold a 1-1 record all-time in season openers. Both of the previous games happened on the road, with the Jayhawks traveling to Toledo in 1992, and winning, plus losing at UNLV in 2002.

Kansas holds an all-time record of 69-47-7 in season openers. The Jayhawks have won 25 of their past 28 home non-conference games dating back to 2003.

Saturday’s start will be Kansas quarterback Jake Heaps first game action in 658 days after his last collegiate start at BYU. Kansas will also be bringing along a slew of new offensive lineman after replacing Tanner Hawkinson, Trevor Marrongelli, and Duane Zlatnik.

Game time is 6:00 p.m. central time as the Jayhawks look to end their 11-game losing slide vs the Coyotes of South Dakota. South Dakota has an 1-0 record after beating UC Davis last week.
