Kansas Football: A Look at the South Dakota Defense

On Saturday, the Kansas Jayhawks host South Dakota in Lawrence at 6:00 p.m. central time. Here is a glance at the Coyotes defense.

Last week, South Dakota defeated UC-Davis, 10-7 thanks to a strong defensive effort, keeping the visiting team off the scoreboard for 56 minutes.

Leading the charge for the defense is Keyen Lage, who made nine tackles, forcing a fumble and picking up a sack. Lage was unstoppable in the game, and keeping the Coyotes ahead throughout. Devin Taverna is another big-time player on the roster. He picked up seven tackles in the game. Auston Johnson added seven tackles.

The defense gave up some big plays, mostly on the ground as UC-Davis running back Gabe Manzanares nearly hit the 100-yard mark on the ground. The team’s passing defense was strong in shutting down UC-Davis all game.

Kansas with a strong rushing duo of James Sims and Tony Pierson, have the ability to make this a long day for UC-Davis, along with dual threat quarterback Jake Heaps.
