Over the weekend, the Kansas Lady Jayhawks soccer squad defeated Missouri State, 1-0 then followed that up with a 4-1 victory vs Purdue in Lawrence.
In the game on Friday night vs Missouri State, Kelsey Lyden scored her first career goal in the 87th minute of the match with Jamie Fletcher picking up the assist. The Jayhawks out-shot Missouri State in the game, 11-5 with four of those shots coming from Lyden. Kaitlyn Stroud picked up her second straight shutout in the net with the game.
On Sunday, the Jayhawks took on a high-powered offense from Purdue. Instead of backing down, Kansas came out firing, in taking a 4-1 win. In total, Kansas out-shot Purdue, 23-14. The Boilermakers had been averaging 29 shots per game in their first two contests this season.
Liana Salazar kicked off the scoring for the match in the 19th minute on a penalty kick. Then in the 26th minute, Ashley Williams scored off an Ashley Pankey assist. Caroline Kastor scored early in the second half, pushing the lead to 3-0. Purdue managed to get on the board with a goal in the 83rd minute from Jordan Pawlik. Kansas answered that goal in the 85th minute from Courtney Dickerson, pushing the lead to three goals once more.
Next up for the Jayhawks is a game vs Arizona on Friday in Tempe as part of the Sun Devil Classic.
