On Oct. 19th, the Kansas Jayhawks will host the Oklahoma Sooners. The game time is yet to be announced and will be the Jayhawks sixth game of the season.
Last season, Oklahoma defeated Kansas, 52-7 in Norman. The Jayhawks are aiming for a closer result this season.
Losing Landry Jones to the NFL hurts the team at quarterback, though this past week, Oklahoma named freshman Trevor Knight as the starter. The freshman starter will need help from the running back position, which the Sooners can give. Damien Williams led the team in rushing yards with 946 yards. Brennan Clay is a solid number two back.
On the receiver side of things, the Sooners with Jalen Saunders and Sterling Shepard plus Josh Stewart and Tracy Moore. Saunders made 62 catches last season, while Shepard added 45.
Defensively, the Sooners have a strong leader in senior Aaron Colvin who at the cornerback position made 61 tackles and four interceptions. The rest of the defense is a work in progress as the team changes to a 4-2-5 base package. Frank Shannon and Corey Nelson are the likely two linebackers in the formation. Shannon made 47 tackles last season, and Nelson added 40.
Like every season, Oklahoma expects to be around the top of the Big 12 conference. New faces will have to step up, but there is no reason to think, this team won’t contend for the conference title and a BCS berth.
