Kansas Soccer: Exhibition Game vs Nebraska-Omaha on Tap

On Sunday, in Lawrence the Kansas women’s soccer team take the field for the first time this season in an exhibition game vs Nebraska-Omaha. The game begins at 1:00 p.m. central time.

Nebraska-Omaha and Kansas have never met before in an exhibition or real-game setting. Last season, the Mavericks posted a 3-15 record overall. The team competes out of the Summitt League, where the team finished with a 3-5 record. Nebraska-Omaha returns 11 starters from last season’s team, and 14 overall letter-winners. The team has already played once this season, in a 3-1 loss to Drake last weekend.

The Mavericks averaged just under a goal per game last season at 0.78. The team gave up on average 2.33 goals per contest, allowing on average 15 shots per game. The team’s goalie Meaghan Clark started all 18 games for the Mavericks, allowing a .698 save percentage.

Kansas is set to add six newcomers to a unit including Caroline Kastor, Ashley Williams, Courtney Dickerson, and Jamie Fletcher all players who performed well last year. Kastor is the team’s returning top goals scorer at 11 last year.

Taylor Estrada, Jen Rush, Maddie Dobyns, Ashley Pankey, Morgan Williams and Jackie Georgoulis all may see action on Sunday. Estrada is the two-time Gatorade player of the year in Arkansas.
