The Kansas Jayhawks women’s volleyball team begin their season on August 30th as they face Central Arkansas as part of the Arizona Invitational. Morgan State and Arizona also will part of this tournament. Here is a look at the team’s preview of the season.
Last season was one of the best in recent memory for the Jayhawks as they finished with a record of 26-7 overall. The team posted 20 of these wins at home. Kansas hosted a NCAA tournament region only to fall to Wichita State, 3-1 in the second round of the tourney.
Caroline Jarmoc returns to headline a stacked team which should contend for the Big 12 title if not national title. Jarmoc became the first Jayhawk in team history to pick up over 400 kills and 150 blocks. Overall, she racked up 424 kills and 157 blocks. Jarmoc is not the only key senior returning as Brianne Riley and Erin McNorton also return. Riley became the Jayhawks all-time digs leader with a total of 1,498 in just three seasons, surpassing the previous mark by 41. Riley made 613 digs last year alone. Senior setter Erin McNorton made 1,443 assists, tops in the conference and seventh in the country. Fellow first team Big 12 member Sarah McClinton also returns to the squad.
The season starts off with a bang in Arizona invitational. Kansas hosts their own invitational beginning on Sept. 20th with Notre Dame, Georgia and North Dakota State coming. Things only get tougher once the conference schedule begins on Sept. 28th vs TCU.
