Yesterday, at the Big 12 Media Days, the Kansas Jayhawks football team sent a group of players along with head coach Charlie Weis. James Sims, Ben Heeny, Jake Heaps and Cassius Sendish all were present.
Weis is excited about transfer Heaps, returning leading rusher for the conference Sims, and new transfer Nick Harwell. Harwell, was a stand-out wide receiver at Miami of Ohio, before being kicked off the team for breaking team rules.
The coach also spoke about moving backup running back Tony Pierson into a role West Virginia’s Tavon Austin owned last season. Pierson, could be a dominant force and make the offense even more versatile.
Weis also said how he was looking forward to seeing what Heaps has to offer as a starting quarterback. The quarterback’s addition is similar to last season’s transfer quarterback Dayne Crist. Though Crist was coming off two injuries, and Heaps is arriving free of these. The former BYU quarterback had to sit out due to NCAA rules last season.
The coach is excited about what the plethora of junior college players he brought in this season can do for the team. Before the team even took the field last season, Weis eliminated 29 guys, the coach has went the JUCO route to improve this area and has brought in elite talent to the fold.
Kansas begins the season on Sept. 7th vs South Dakota.
