Kansas Football: Sims Named to Doak Walker Award Watch-List

Kansas Jayhawks star running back James Sims was named to the Doak Walker watch-list late last week. The running back rushed for over 1,000 yards last season, despite missing the first three games of the year.

In total, Sims rushed for 1,013 yards and nine touchdowns. The back set a new Kansas record in eclipsing the 100-yard mark in six straight games. He is the Big-12 conference’s top returning rusher. Sims’s top game came vs Texas last season, when the junior back rushed for 176 yards. In total, Sims has amassed 2,482 rushing yards with Kansas, good for eighth all-time.

Sims added 14 receptions for 168 yards and one touchdown. Sims was named first team All-Big 12 by ESPN.com, Phil Steele and CBS Sports.

The semifinalists for the award will be named on Nov. 14th, while the finalists get picked on Nov. 25th. The winner will be announced on Dec. 12th at the College Football Awards show which is airing on ESPN.
