Kansas Football: Pre-Season Accolades from Annuals

As the days continue to tick away until kickoff for the next season, pre-season college football magazines have arrived as a prequel. There are a handful of Kansas Jayhawks among the honor roll. Here they are:

Ben Heeny was named to the Athlon, Sporting New’s and Lindy’s first team All Big-12. The linebacker also was named to the third team All Big-12 for the Phil Steele magazine.

Marquel Combs and Ron Doherty were named to Phil Steele’s Fourth team for the Big-12. Combs, as a defensive tackle looks to boost the Jayhawks defensive outlook. Doherty, is one of the conferences top kickers.

James Sims was named to Athlon’s first team All-Big 12. He also was named to Lindy’s and Phil Steele’s second team for the conference. Lindy’s named the running back as the nation’s 16th top running back.

Sporting News named Jake Heaps one of the top five transfers, and the magazine also proclaimed the Jayhawks to have the third-best recruiting class in the Big-12. On a side note, the Sporting News named head coach Charlie Weis as the best interview in the conference.
