On Wednesday night in Lawrence at Hoglund Park, the Kansas Jayhawks got back to winning with an 8-0 victory over Baker. Alex DeLeon, had three RBI’s and one home run in the game.
With the win, Kansas improved to 27-18 overall, while dropping Baker to 6-39. Tanner Poppe pitched seven innings in the win for Kansas allowing one hit and picking up seven strikeouts. Baker pitcher Caleb Lee pitched five and a third-innings in the loss, giving up two earned runs and eight hits.
DeLeon’s home-run happened in the eighth inning producing the games final runs of the game. The game was score-less after five innings, as Baker dodged a couple of bullets in previous innings. Kansas’s Connor McKay and Jordan Drieling each passed home-plate in the sixth inning, giving Kansas an 2-0 lead. DeLeon then came through with a double in the sixth inning, followed by a hit from McKay,making the score 5-0. Kansas scored three more runs in the eighth with DeLeon homering and Michael Suiter driving home a couple runs.
Next up for Kansas is a meeting with Baylor over the weekend in Lawrence. The Bears are 25-20 overall and have won five straight games including a sweep of Texas last weekend.
