Kansas Baseball: Jayhawks Drop Pitchers Duel, 1-0

On Friday night, two great pitchers took the mound in West Virginia’s Harrison Musgrave and Kansas’s Thomas Taylor. Musgrave, is coming off winning the national pitcher of the week award. Musgrave’s hot streak continued as West Virginia won, 1-0.

With the win, the Mountaineers improved to 25-18 overall and 7-6 in Big 12 conference action. Kansas fell to 25-16 and 9-7. The two teams meet again for a doubleheader today at Epling Stadium in Beckley.

Musgrave improved to 6-1 on the year, while Taylor fell to 4-1. Musgrave, is coming off a shutout of the Texas Longhorns earning him the pitcher of the week nod.  The game’s only run came in the bottom of the eighth inning, thanks to a triple from Mountaineer Brady Wilson.

Kansas mustered up four hits off the pitcher, gaining a couple of scoring chances throughout the game, only to have them snuffed out by Musgrave and the Mountaineers. Two of the hits came from Connor McKay.

The Mountaineers were keyed by Wilson and Billy Fleming, who went 3-3 on the day.

The two teams will meet for a double-header today, due to a forecast that calls for rain on Sunday. Kansas expects to start Wes Benjamin today, and Frank Duncan, who has been coming out of the bullpen, tomorrow.
