Kansas Track and Field: Jayhawks Earn Seven Titles on Final Day of Kansas Relay’s

On Saturday afternoon at Memorial Stadium in Lawrence, the Kansas Jayhawks track and field team posted a very strong day of action. There were stand-out performances all around the board for the team.

Michael Stigler set a new Kansas record with a time of 49.42 in the 400m hurdles, earning second place in the event. Stigler’s time is the fastest so far in the outdoor season. Olympic silver medalist Michael Tinsley just edged out Stigler in the end.

Kyle Clemons won the event’s 400m invitational with a time of 46.28. This win was Clemon’s third career victory at the event, he also won the collegiate titles the last two years.

Stigler and Clemons along with Michael Hester and DeMario Johnson made up the men’s 4×400 relay team that edged out Nebraska to win the event with a time of 3:07.78.

The men’s 4×880 team, won the title for the first time since 1989 with a time of 7:44.08. The team of Ben Brownlee, Dominque Manley, Dalen Fink and Nick Seckfort won the race.

Paris Daniels on the women’s side of things won the 100m dash with a time of 11.55. Denesha Morris, Diamond Dixon, Daniels and Taylor Washington won the women’s 4×400 with a time of 3:32.94.

Francine Simpson won the women’s long jump event with a jump of 6.53m (21’5.25″).

Most of the team now rests until Big 12 outdoor championships held in Waco, Texas over May 3-5th.
