Due to impending thunder-storms in the Lawrence area, officials with the university cancelled Wednesday nights game vs Ottawa University that was scheduled for 6:30 p.m. central time. This game was scheduled when the Jayhawks had one of their games cancelled due to snow earlier this year.
On Tuesday night, the Creighton Blue Jays came to play as they unloaded on the Jayhawks with a barrage of runs in a 12-4 win at Ameritrade Park. Mike Gerber and Fedricio Castagnini roughed up Kansas starting pitcher Tanner Poppe who lasted just three and a third innings in the game. Poppe gave up six earned runs and seven hits in the loss.
Kansas took an early lead in the first inning thanks to Michael Suiter and Alex DeLeon both knocking in runs. Creighton answered quickly, stealing the lead entering the second inning with three runs. The Blue Jays added an insurance run in the second inning, before Kansas knotted things up in the fourth inning off Kevin Kuntz’s bat. The short-stop drove home two runs with a single.
Creighton once again answered the runs with their own, going ahead by one run heading into the fifth inning. From here things got worse for the Jayhawks. Relievers Colin Toalson and Junior Mustain then gave up three runs each over the next three and two-thirds innings of action. Two of Toalson’s runs were un-earned.Kansas failed to answer the Blue Jays in losing by eight runs.
Kansas returns to play on Friday night when they travel to face Texas Tech for a three-game series.
