On Friday night, the Kansas Jayhawks used a clutch single from Trevor Tharp bringing home Dakota Smith for the game-winning run in the 12th inning over Texas, 7-6.
The Jayhawks improved to 21-12 on the season, while dropping Texas to an 18-14 mark and 3-7 in conference play.
Texas stormed out to an 4-0 lead after the third inning finished, before Kansas rushed back. Michael Suiter and Alex DeLeon both drove in runs in the third, cutting the margin in half. Kansas then stole the lead in the fifth off the bat of DeLeon, who hit a home-run, his fourth of the year. Texas tied the game up again in the sixth as Brooke Marlow drove picked up a RBI. Kansas once again took the lead as Justin Protacio scored. Texas rallied in the eighth inning, paving the way for extra innings.
Kansas starting pitcher Thomas Taylor went six innings, giving up nine hits and five earned runs. Parker French threw six innings for the Longhorns, also giving up five earned runs. Jordan Pinche earned the win for Kansas, after pitching four scoreless innings.
The teams meet up once again today at 2:00 p.m. central time. The game will be shown on Jayhawk All-Access. Kansas will look to continue their four-game winning streak, while Texas aims to pick up a big conference run.
