Kansas Baseball: Jayhawks Top Missouri Valley, 10-1

On Thursday night at Hoglund Park in Lawrence, the Kansas Jayhawks baseball team jumped on Missouri Valley College with an easy 10-1 win.

Kansas with the win improved to 20-12 on the season, just the exact opposite of the mark at this point last season. This is the Jayhawks best record after 32 games, since 2009 when they were 21-11.

Tanner Pope picked up the win, improving his record on the season to 2-2, while Jordan Amlong earned the defeat, falling to 0-4 this year.

The Jayhawks opened up the scoring with a run in the first inning. Kansas then added three more runs in the fourth and another three in the fifth inning. Alex DeLeon knocked in the first of two home-runs in the fourth inning for the Jayhawks, bringing him Kevin Kuntz, pushing the scored to 4-0. In the seventh inning, Connor McKay nailed a three-run homer, bringing in Marcus Wheeler and Colby Wright, pushing the score to 10-0. Missouri Valley added one run in the eighth inning breaking up the shut-out.

Next up for Kansas is a three-game series with Texas beginning tomorrow night at Hoglund. Texas is 18-13 overall and 3-6 in Big 12 conference play. The Longhorns are coming off a 12-5 win over Texas State on Tuesday.
