Withey, McLemore Named to Wooden Finalist List

Kansas Jayhawks basketball players Jeff Withey and Ben McLemore were named to the finalist list for the Wooden award, given to the nation’s top player during the season.

12 other players were also named as finalists. Those include: Victor Oladipo and Tyler Zeller from Indiana, Kelly Olynik at Gonzaga, Trey Burke from Michigan, Otto Porter at Georgetown, Deshaun Thomas at Ohio State, Doug McDermott at Creighton, Erick Green at Virginia Tech, Mason Plumlee at Duke, Marcus Smart at Oklahoma State, Shane Larkin from Miami and Nate Wolters from South Dakota State.

McLemore is averaging about 17 points per game, tops on the Jayhawks. The freshman guard is expected to get drafted in the NBA Draft, if he chooses to go, in the top five. Withey, is averaging 14 points, nine rebounds and four blocked shots per game. The senior center is a threat for a double-double or even flirting with a triple-double. Withey set a Big 12 record for most blocked shots in one season, and took over the ranks as the Jayhawks top blocker of all-time.

The winner of the award will be announced at the final four in Atlanta.
