Kansas Baseball: Jayhawks Improve to 3-2 After Win over SIU-Edwardsville

On Friday afternoon, the Kansas Jayhawks ace pitcher Frank Duncan shut out SIU-Edwardsville during 7 1/2 innings. Duncan was relieved by Tyler Watson and Junior Mustain in an 8-0 win. Kansas improved to 3-2 overall, while SIUE dropped to 1-3.

SIUE starting pitcher Travis Felax kept the Jayhawks scoreless until the fifth inning. That’s when Ka’iana Eldredge drove home freshman Justin Boylan with a double. Boylan previously doubled to reach second base.

Kansas added two more runs in the sixth inning, followed by three in the seventh and two more in the eighth.

Justin Protacio drove home two runs in getting three hits and one walk. Dakota Smith added three hits and one run batted in for the Jayhawks in the win. Felax gave up three runs and seven hits for SIUE,. Relief pitching gave up five runs, and seven hits.

Next up for Kansas is a double-header on Saturday, starting with Central Arkansas followed by Jackson State in Conway, Arkansas. The Jayhawks will look to continue playing well in the early part of the season.
