Kansas Jayhawks point guard Angel Goodrich scored a game-high 31 points in Kansas’s loss to Texas on Wednesday night in Austin. The Longhorns defeated Kansas, 93-83, earning their third win in Big 12 conference action, and 10th overall. Kansas fell to 16-9 overall and 7-7 in conference.
Chassidy Fussell led a balanced scoring effort for Texas with 26 points and three assists. Imani McGee-Stafford added 18 points, Nneka Enemkpali scored 15 points, while Empress Davenport scored 13. Carolyn Davis scored 23 points for Kansas, however no other Jayhawk scored in double-figures. Catherine Williams and Asia Boyd were the only Jayhawks who played off the bench as the starters logged serious minutes in the loss.
Texas was in control from the start, jumping to an early 8-2 advantage. From there the lead continued to grow, as Texas held a 47-35 lead at halftime. Kansas had the lead down to eight before Texas erupted on an 14-4 run, pushing the lead to 20 points at 61-41. Kansas managed to trim the lead to 10 with 4:27 remaining, after Davis connected on a free throw. After Goodrich nailed a three-pointer, the lead was just five with 50 seconds remaining, though Texas managed to hold on.
