On Wednesday night in Fort Worth, Texas, the Kansas Lady Jayhawks rallied from a 23-point second half deficit to win, 76-75 over TCU.
With the win, Kansas improved to 15-8 overall, and 6-6 in Big 12 conference action. TCU, felll to 7-16 overall, and 0-12 in conference.
Monica Engleman led the way for Kansas with 26 points, seven rebounds and three assists in the game. Carolyn Davis scored 19 points along with 13 rebounds. Chelsea Gardner pulled down a game-high 18 rebounds for the Jayhawks. Angel Goodrich, fresh of being named to the First-Team Big-12 All-Academic team for the second straight year, scored nine points, to go with 10 assists, five steals and four rebounds.
Zahna Medley led all players with 35 points for TCU. The guard dished out five assists and four rebounds. Kamy Cole added 18 points.
TCU jumped on Kansas from the start, scoring the first 10 points of the game. The lead suddenly grew to 17 after Medley connected on a three-pointer. At halftime, TCU held a 22-point lead at 49-27. After another Medley triple, TCU was ahead 52-29, then things began to turn around for Kansas. The Lady Jayhawks scored the next 11 points, cutting the lead in half, with 14:39 remaining. At the 8:35 mark after an Asia Boyd lay-up, Kansas had the lead under 10. Boyd drilled another three an short time later, cutting the lead to five at the 4:37 mark. After Engleman scored at the 3:29 mark, Kansas held their first lead of the game at 68-67. TCU quickly bounced back, claiming a three-point lead once again at 73-70. Then Davis took over. The senior scored Kansas’s final four points after Engleman scored, including the game-winner with 14 seconds left.
Next up for Kansas is the 22nd-ranked Oklahoma Sooners on Sunday in Lawrence. Oklahoma has an 18-5 overall record and are 8-3 in conference with a game vs Iowa State left to play tomorrow.
