On Monday at 8:00 p.m. central time , the fifth-ranked Kansas Jayhawks host the 13th-ranked Kansas State Wildcats in the next installment of the Sunflower Showdown in Lawrence. The game will be televised by ESPN.
The rankings for both teams should change significantly tomorrow when the new top 25 poll hits the press. Kansas lost both games this past week falling to 19-4 overall and 7-3 in Big 12 conference play. Kansas State is in first place with a 19-4 record and 8-2 in conference record. These two teams met on Jan. 22nd in Manhattan earlier this season. Kansas defeated the Wildcats in a low-scoring defensive battle, 59-55 then. Look for more of the same tomorrow.
Kansas State is led by senior guard Rodney McGruder, who is averaging 15 points, five rebounds and two assists per game. McGruder totaled 13 points in the teams earlier meeting. Fellow guard Angel Rodriguez is averaging about 10 points per game, and five assists. Thomas Gipson leads the team in rebounding, averaging about six per game, and eight points per game.
These game pits two teams going in opposite directions as Kansas State has won four straight since losing back-to-back games vs Kansas and Iowa State in late January. Kansas has fallen in three straight games, though defeating your top rival here would likely help out this team.
