On Wednesday night in Corpus Christi, Texas, the TCU Horned Frogs defeated the fifth-ranked Kansas Jayhawks, 62-55. The win moved the Horned Frogs to a 10-12 record overall and 1-8 in conference, while Kansas fell to a 19-3 record overall and 7-2 in conference.
Senior guard Garlon Green led the way for the Horned Frogs with 20 points . Nate Butler Lind added 10 points for TCU. Connell Crossland was a beast in the middle, pulling down 13 rebounds to go along with seven points. TCU for the game shot 39% from the field.
Kansas was ice cold throughout the contest, shooting just 29% from the field . Kansas hit a terrible 3-22 from three-point field goal land. Three Jayhawks scored in double-figures, Ben McLemore, Jeff Withey and Naadir Thorpe. McLemore scored 15 to lead the way, while Withey added 12 and Thorpe scored 11. Senior guard Travis Relford scored just one point, while fouling out. Kansas only scored 13 points in the first half, while TCU didn’t do much better, just scoring 22 points. TCU jumped on the Jayhawks, right from the start, leading 20-6 by the 4:08 mark of the first half. Kansas managed to cut the lead down before intermission.
TCU’s largest lead came at the 11:42 mark of the game after Adrick McKinney scored putting the host team ahead by 16 at 37-21. Kansas went on a quick 17-5 run, cutting this down to four points at 42-38 with 7 minutes left, only to go cold again as TCU’s lead rose to 11 once more.
Next up for Kansas is Oklahoma on Saturday as they look to stop this two-game conference losing streak. Oklahoma is 14-7 overall and 5-4 in conference. The Jayhawks earlier beat Oklahoma on Jan. 26th, 67-54 in Lawrence.
