On Wednesday night, the Kansas Lady Jayhawks, and Iowa State Lady Cyclones put on a show for the fans. Kansas defeated Iowa State, 78-75 as Angel Goodrich put the team on her back. Goodrich, a Kansas senior guard, scored 24 points, five rebounds, 10 assists and five steals in the win.
With the win, Kansas improved to 13-6 on the year, and Iowa State newly in the top 25 at 23, fell to 14-5, and 5-4 in conference. Natalie Knight added 21 points for Kansas, and Carolyn Davis scored 15. Iowa State was led by Brynn Willamson who scored 19 points. Hallie Christofferson scored 18, while Chelsea Poppins scored 12 points along with 12 rebounds.
Iowa State was in control throughout most of the game, after both teams battled to a near tie through the first 15 minutes of the contest, Nikki Moody hit a triple pushing the Cylcone lead to seven. Iowa State went into the locker-room holding a nine-point lead at half. Iowa State scored the first eight points of the second half, jumping to a 44-27 lead. Things continued to look bleak at the 8:56 mark as Anna Prins scored on a lay-up, putting the lead at 18 for Iowa State. Kansas instantly battled back, scoring the next seven points. The lead was cut to nine with 3:56 left after Davis made a couple free throws. Knight then scored five key points, including a steal cutting the lead to three with 1:46 left. Goodrich later drained a three-pointer tying the game, with 16 seconds left. She then preserved the tie with a steal.
Kansas grabbed control in the overtime after Goodrich hit a couple of free throws, putting the Jayhawks ahead by four with 23 seconds left.
Kansas next faces Kansas State on Saturday.
