Kansas Basketball: West Virginia Game Preview

On Monday at 8:00 p.m. central time, the West Virginia Mountaineers will host the Kansas Jayhawks. The third-ranked Jayhawks enter the game with an 18-1 record overall and are 6-0 in Big 12 conference play. West Virginia is 2-4 in Big 12 play, and 9-10 overall. Head coach Bill Huggins squad is experiencing some growing pains in their first year with the Big 12 conference.

West Virginia is led by center Aaric Murray, who is averging about 10 points per game and seven rebounds. Murray is a threat to get a double-double any time he is on the court. Guard Juwan Staten contributes with 10 points per game, and four assists. Both Murray and Staten come off the bench for this team. Freshman guard Eron Harris has shown flashes of being brilliant, yet is still raw at the spot. He is averaging eight points per game.

A lack of a big-time scoring threat is hurting the Mountaineers as they attempt to get better this season. West Virginia is coming off a loss to Oklahoma State on Saturday that saw Harris score 17 points to lead the way, but the cold shooting Mountaineers in the second half failed to keep pace. West Virginia has the pieces to be a strong team down the stretch if they can put it all together.
