Instant Reaction: Kansas Shuts Down Oklahoma, 67-54

On Saturday in Lawrence, the Kansas Jayhawks were in control throughout the contest en route to a 67-54 win over Oklahoma. Ben McLemore led the Jayhawks with 18 points and seven rebounds. With the win, Kansas improved to 18-1 on the year, and 6-0 in Big 12 action. Oklahoma led by Romero Osby’s 12 points, fell to 13-5 and 4-2 in conference.

Kansas senior center Jeff Withey added 13 points, nine rebounds, three steals and four blocked shots in the win. Travis Releford scored 10. Kansas broke open a close game early on with a 17-7 run, pushing the lead to 10 at 24-14. Oklahoma attempted to claw back before the first half concluded, but could cut the lead to eight points, at 29-21.

The second half was more of the same, with the two teams trading baskets until Withey dunked the ball to put Kansas ahead 61-47 with 6:54 remaining in the game. After this point, Oklahoma failed to cut the lead under 12 points as Kansas coasted to the win.

Next up for the Jayhawks, who are poised to take over the top ranking on Monday, is a game with West Virginia later on in the day. The game is scheduled for 8:00 p.m central time. West Virginia is 9-10 overall and 2-4 in conference after losing to Oklahoma State on Saturday.
