Instant Reaction: Kansas Rallies to Defeat Texas, 64-59

On Saturday afternoon, the Texas Longhorns gave it their all vs Kansas, only the Jayhawks rallied in the end to win, 64-59. Kansas was led by guard Ben McLemore, who scored 16 points to go along with six rebounds, and two steals.

With the win, Kansas improved to 16-1 overall, and 4-0 in Big 12 conference action. Texas fell to 8-9 overall, and 0-4 in conference play. The Longhorns were keyed by Sheldon McClellan, who came off the bench with 18 points. Julian Lewis added 11 points, while Jonathan Holmes scored 10.

Texas scored 12 straight points to take a 42-31 lead with 15:11 left in the game after McLemore drilled a three-pointer to give Kansas the lead. The Jayhawks whittled that margin down, until taking the lead back after McLemore dunked the ball on a fast break, putting Kansas ahead 54-53. Texas still had some fight in them, again holding the lead at 57-56. Then two turnovers helped lead to easy points for Kansas, and suddenly the Jayhawks held a 62-57 lead.

Kansas center Jeff Withey added 14 points, nine rebounds, four assists and three blocks, and senior Travis Releford scored 12 points, including four key free throws down the stretch.

Next up for Kansas is a match-up with inner state rival, Kansas State on Tuesday. The Wildcats are currently 14-2 overall, and are ahead of Oklahoma in a game today.
