On Saturday, the Texas Longhorns and Kansas Jayhawks square off in Austin. Texas enters the game with an 8-8 record, and 0-3 in Big 12 conference play. Kansas holds a 15-1 record, and are 3-0 in conference.
The Longhorns best win on the season came vs North Carolina on Dec. 19th when the Tar Heels were ranked 23rd at the time. Other then that, this season has been full of struggles. A three game losing streak to kick off Big 12 play hasn’t helped head coach Rick Barnes squad. Texas fell to Baylor and West Virginia in overtime, before losing badly to Iowa State on Saturday.
Texas is led by sophomore guard Sheldon McClellan who is averaging 14 points and four rebounds per game. The Longhorns top assist man is Javan Felix. The freshman point guard is averaging six assists per game, to go along with nine points and three boards. In the middle, sophomore forward Jonathan Holmes is averaging eight rebounds and eight points per game.
Jayhawks leading scorer, freshman guard Ben McLemore sat out practice on Wednesday due to a sore ankle he suffered in Kansas’s win over Baylor on Monday. Head coach Bill Self expects McLemore to be back in practice today, and be close to 100% for Saturday’s game.
