Kansas Women’s Basketball: Cowgirls Dominate Lady Jayhawks, 76-59

The Oklahoma State Cowgirls improved to 12-2 overall and 1-2 in Big 12 conference play after defeating Kansas, 76-59 on Tuesday night in Stillwater. Kansas with the loss fell to 11-3 overall, and 2-1 in Big 12 Conference play.

The 21st-ranked Cowgirls were led by guard Liz Donahoe who scored 24 points in the game. Forward Toni Young added 15 points and eight rebounds. Brittany Martin posted a double-double for the Cowgirls, scoring 14 points and pulling down 10 boards. Kansas was led by Carolyn Davis. The senior forward scored 14 points. Angel Goodrich scored 12 points, to go along with eight assists, three blocks, and three steals. In the end, a balanced attack from Oklahoma State was too much for Kansas to keep up with.

In a game, Oklahoma State never trailed, they shot 46% from the field. The Cowgirls held an early 20-10 lead after Donohoe scored on a running shot. Kansas failed to cut much into this lead by halftime as the Cowgirls held an 37-29 lead by intermission. After Davis made a free throw in the second half, Kansas was behind by seven points at 44-37. Oklahoma State then posted a 16-5 run, storming to a 60-42 lead at the 9:05 mark. Kansas managed to cut the lead to 11, but no closer.

Next up for the Lady Jayhawks is a game with Brittany Greiner and the top-ranked Baylor Bears on Sunday.
