Kansas Women’s Basketball: California Game Preview

Tomorrow night at 9:00 central time, the 19th-ranked Kansas Lady Jayhawks and 8th-ranked California Golden Bears square off in Berkley. The Jayhawks are 9-1 on the season, while Cal stands at 8-1.

Cal has a very balanced squad, having five players average scoring over 10 points per game. Brittany Boyd leads the Bears in scoring, averaging 15 points per game and assists at just under six per contest. Gennifer Brendon contributes with 14 points and 11 rebounds per game. Layshia Clarendon, Talia Caldwell, and  Reshandia Gray all average over 10 points per game.

Cal’s only loss this season came to fourth-ranked Duke on Dec. 2nd, 77-63. Most recently, Cal defeated Northwestern, 71-65 on Monday.

Cal is Kansas’s first ranked opponent on the season. Carolyn Davis will look to better Brendon, while Angel Goodrich earns the task of slowing Boyd. Kansas’s bench also will get tested against the deep Cal team that can beat you a number of ways with five guys who can score.
