Kansas used a 20-2 run to break open a close game on Tuesday afternoon in Lawrence vs Richmond. The run pushed a 13-9 lead to 33-11 en route to a 87-59 win over the Spiders from the Atlantic 10.
The game was a tune-up for Kansas as seventh-ranked Ohio State looms on Saturday. With the win, Kansas improved to 9-1 on the year, dropping Richmond to 9-3.
Kansas held a 39-18 lead at halftime over Richmond. This lead continued to grow as Naadir Thorpe connected on a jumper putting Kansas ahead 60-33 at the 8:49 mark. Richmond failed to cut much more into the lead, eventually falling by 28 points.
Jeff Withey scored 17 points and pulled down 13 rebounds to go along with making four blocks in the win. Freshman guard Ben McLemore scored 14 points and added seven rebounds. Thorpe finished with 11 points, as did senior guard Travis Releford. Forward Derrick Williams scored 14 points to lead Richmond in the loss. Guard Cedrick Lindsay added 12 points.
