Kansas Women’s Basketball: Lady Jayhawks 9-1 on the year after win over Prairie View A&M

Kansas outscored a pesky Prairie View A&M squad 15-3 to end the game after a 57-57 tie, winning 72-60. The win pushed the 22nd-ranked Jayhawks record to 9-1 this season, dropping the Panthers mark to 2-5.

Latia Williams led all scorers with 21 points for the Panthers in the loss. Point guard Angel Goodrich scored 19 points and eight assists for Kansas, while forward Carolyn Davis added 13 points. Forward Tania Jackson added 13 points and 10 rebounds in the win.

Kansas broke open a close game in the first half, finishing the stanza on a 17-6 run, pushing their lead to 14 points at 37-23. The lead grew in the early part of the half to 17 at 42-25 before the Panthers began clawing away at the margin. At the 6:38 mark of the half after a basket made by Larissa Scott, Kansas’s lead was trimmed to four points at 56-52. A short while later, Williams scored to tie the game at 57. Goodrich then answered with a three-point play instantly putting Kansas back in charge.

Next up for the Jayhawks is a meeting with the ninth-ranked California Golden Bears in Berkley on Friday.
