The Kansas Jayhawks improved to 8-1 on the year with a 89-60 victory over Belmont, Saturday afternoon in Lawrence. Guards Ben McLemore and Travis Releford led the way for the seventh-ranked team in the land. Both guards scored 17 points in the win.
Belmont was led by forward Trevor Noack, who totaled 19 points in the loss. The forward also picked up eight rebounds.
Kansas roared to a 10-2 lead as Elijah Johnson picked up five quick points for the team. Belmont managed to trim the lead down to six at 27-21, but Kansas instantly added to the lead, holding a 44-28 lead at halftime.
This lead ballooned to 25 at 57-32 after forward Nick Young scored on a lay-up. Things continued to get worse as Kansas after Andrew White III made a jumper, grabbed a 87-46 lead with 6:31 left in the contest. Belmont managed to make the final score a little more respectable after Kansas head coach Bill Self pulled out the team’s starters.
Next up for Kansas is a game with Richmond from the Atlantic 10 on Tuesday night. The Spiders improved to 9-2 on the season after defeating Stetson, 76-57 on Saturday.
