Kansas Jayhawks running back James Sims, offensive lineman Tanner Hawkinson, linebacker Ben Heeny, and safety Bradley McDougald were named to the Big 12 second team late last week.
This season, Sims became the 11th player in Kansas history to rush over 1,000 yards. In all, Sims ran for 1,013 yards despite missing the teams first three games. He led the conference in rushing and ranked 18th nationally.
Hawkinson finished his Jayhawks career making 48 starts. He was a big part of the team’s success on the ground. Kansas ranked 24th nationally and third in the conference rushing the ball.
Heeny led the team in tackles with 112, finishing third in the Big 12 conference. He led the team as well in tackles for loss with 12. The linebacker is just a sophomore.
McDougald, also a senior made three interceptions, and ranked second to Heeny with 92 tackles on the year. 72 of these tackles were solo stops.
Running back Tony Pierson, tight end Jimmay Mundine, and offensive lineman Duane Zlatnik all made honorable mention.
