Kansas Basketball: Withey named Player of the Week

Kansas Jayhawks center Jeff Withey was named player of the week for the week of Nov. 26th through Dec. 2nd. For the week, Withey averaged 17 points, nine rebounds, and eight blocked shots. This marks the second straight week for a Jayhawk to have this honor after Trevor Releford earned the honor last week. The honor is voted upon the media who cover the conference.

Withey helped lead Kansas to a 2-0 record for the week, with victories over San Jose State and Oregon State. On Tuesday, the Jayhawks defeated San Jose State, 70-57. Kansas followed this with another close win over Oregon State on Friday night, 84-78.  In the San Jose State win, Withey posted the first triple-double in Allen Fieldhouse history and the second one in Kansas history. For the game, Withey scored 16 points, pulled down 12 rebounds and blocked 12 shots. This is Withey’s second career Big 12 player of the week honor. He was player of the week once last season on Feb. 13th.
