Kansas Women’s Basketball: Alabama A&M Recap

On Friday evening, the Kansas Lady Jayhawks improved to 4-0 with a 76-59 win over the Alabama A&M Bulldogs in Lawrence. The win improved Kansas’s record to 4-0 on the year, and dropped the Bulldogs to 1-3.

For the game, there were no ties as the Jayhawks grabbed control from the start. After a Monica Engleman lay-up, Kansas held an early seven-point lead at 11-4. The Bulldogs battled back, but Kansas again seized control before half-time, taking a 40-31 lead into the locker-room.

The second half was more of the same, though the lead did hover around 10 points throughout. It wasn’t until the 8:07 mark did the Jayhawks build a 13-point advantage on a Monica Knight made basket.

Carolyn Davis led the Jayhawks with 19 points. Angel Goodrich added 15 points and eight assists. Bulldogs center NaDra Robertson led the team with 12 points on 5-9 shooting. For the game, Kansas shot 48% from the field, and the visitors connected on 45% of their field goals.

Next up for Kansas is their road opener at Creighton on Sunday afternoon. The game will be at 2:00 central time.
